Young athletes are in the midst of a busy season: the county finals of the Student Athletics Olympics were held in Nyíregyháza, while the spring competition calendar holds further events in store for the students.

At the competitions held at the Nyíregyháza Athletics Center on April 22–23, students were able to test their skills in several age groups.  The running events, jumps, and throwing competitions produced numerous impressive individual performances and exciting team competitions.

The competitions were not just about advancing to the next round: the good atmosphere, the sense of community, and the love of sports were palpable both on the track and in the stands. The photos faithfully capture the tension at the starting line, the moments of crossing the finish line, and the joy of the podium finishers.

The competition series continues in May

The Student Olympics program doesn’t stop; new competitions are coming up as early as the beginning of May.
On May 5, individual competitions for students in age groups III–IV will be held, where even the younger athletes can showcase their skills in running, jumping, and throwing events, as well as in the relay.

The Week of Combined Events is Next

Mid-May will be dedicated entirely to combined events:

  • May 13, 2026 – Age Group II: Individual and Team Combined Events
  • May 14, 2026 – Age Group IV: Individual and Team Combined Events
  • May 15, 2026 – Age Group III Combined Events (Individual and Team)

On these days, students will test their skills in combined events, where various combinations of running, jumping, and throwing will determine the rankings in both individual and team competitions.

Elementary schools bring up the rear

The competition series concludes with the county finals for younger students: May 21, 2026 – Individual and team multi-event competitions for age groups I–IV. This competition is special in several ways: students can compete in combined age groups and on mixed teams, and basic athletic events such as the 100-meter dash, long jump, and small ball throw feature prominently.

Interconnected competitions

The spring Student Olympics competitions are closely linked, yet they cater to different age groups. The individual and combined events finals in mid-April–mid-May primarily provide competition opportunities for the older age groups (grades 3–6), while the elementary school finals on May 21 focus more on the lower grades, partially overlapping with the 3rd–4th grade age group. The competition schedule is well-structured: following the older students’ competitions, a separate but thematically related event closes out the spring season.

The goal: exercise and experience

The finals in Nyíregyháza also demonstrate that the Student Olympics is not just about competition, but also about the joy of exercise and shared experiences. In the coming weeks, more successes and memorable moments await the young athletes.
