On September 22, exercise, competition, and community experiences will once again take center stage at the Nyíregyháza Athletics Center. This marks the eleventh edition of the Seniors’ Sports Meet, which in recent years has become one of the city’s most popular sporting events for the older generation.
Organized by the Municipality of Nyíregyháza, the event is managed by the Nyíregyháza Sports Center. The event is open to those aged 65 and older, and interest continues to grow year after year: last year, more than 700 people participated in the sports meet.
The program begins at 9:00 a.m. on September 22 with the participants marching onto the grass field. Following this, at 9:10 a.m., Dr. Ferenc Kovács, mayor of Nyíregyháza, will welcome those in attendance, and the competitions will begin at 9:20 a.m.
Seniors will have the opportunity to test their skills and fitness in several sports. The program includes chess, table tennis, track and field events, women’s and men’s small ball throw, and floorball. Participants can compete in a total of 16 events across five sports. The chess and table tennis matches will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The sports program will conclude with an awards ceremony at 12:30 p.m.
The organizers are prepared for any weather: if weather conditions prevent outdoor activities from taking place, the event will move to the indoor arena at the Athletics Center, ensuring that the sports meet can still be held even in bad weather.
The 11th Senior Citizens’ Sports Meet once again offers a wonderful opportunity for participants to spend a morning together at the Nyíregyháza Athletics Center, enjoying exercise, socializing with friends, and a little friendly competition.
