On 21 May, the Nyíregyháza Athletics Centre hosted an exciting sporting event: the County Athletics Competition for Small Schools was held, where pupils of age groups I-IV could measure their skills and abilities.
The aim of the competition was to promote athletics as a sport, to provide a competitive opportunity for the younger age group and to decide the county championship titles. The organisation was undertaken by the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County Student Sports and Recreation Association, with President László Vas, competition director István Hadobás and secretary Tiborné Tölgyesi responsible for the organisation of the competition.
The competition took place in the form of individual all-around and team events. The all-around consisted of three events: flat running, long jump and small ball throwing. The younger age groups competed in the 60 m and the age group IV in the 100 m flat race. The Swedish relay was a particularly exciting part of the day, with boys and girls competing over distances of 100-200-300-400 metres.
The teams had to be mixed in age groups: each 6-person team included students from age groups I-II, III and IV. Individual competitors could compete in two events and relays, so that all participants had the opportunity to show their strength, speed and technical skills.
Prizes were also awarded: the top three finishers in the individual and team events received medals, recognising the young athletes' preparation and perseverance.
The event was governed by the official rules of the MASZ and the detailed results of the competition are available on the association's website.
