Badminton in Nyíregyháza has a history of almost five decades, as the sport has been present in the city's sports life since the 1970s.
From the very beginning it was a department of the NYVSC sports club, and over the years it has produced several adult and junior Hungarian champions and national team players, and now it continues its activities as a department of the Nyíregyháza Sports Centre. One of their greatest pride is Andrea Harsági, whose Olympic participation has forever etched her name in sporting history.
Why choose badminton?
In recent years, badminton has become increasingly popular in Hungary and we hope that it is now clear to everyone that it should not be confused with "beach badminton". Badminton is a truly competitive sport that develops a range of physical and mental skills, so once you have mastered the basics, it can be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of age or gender. The sport is particularly beneficial in developing motor skills, as well as improving speed, endurance and tactical thinking.
The Nyíregyháza badminton community has always been renowned for its cohesion and dedication. Under the leadership of two experienced coaches, Andrea Gönczi and Andrea Jakabné Keul, the department continues to strive to ensure the development of young talent while bringing the beauty and benefits of the sport to as many people as possible.
