This weekend, the Nyíregyháza Athletics Center will host the 52nd Hungarian Indoor Athletics Championships and the 2026 Hungarian Winter Throwing Championships.
On Saturday, February 28, and Sunday, March 1, the Nyíregyháza Athletics Center will be the venue for a true athletics celebration, hosting the Hungarian Indoor Athletics Championships. The stakes are not just the national championship title - Hungary's athletic elite will be on the track, competitors with world-class results, whom we can cheer on at international competitions.
National and international stars at the starting line
Among others, the following will be in Nyíregyháza:
Dominik Illovszky - who set a national record of 6.52 in the 60 meters in Belgrade.
Attila Molnár - who wrote himself into sports history with a European indoor record of 45.01.
Boglárka Takács - broke the Hungarian record in the 50 meters, which had stood since 1974.
Alexa Sulyán - the new champion in the 200 meters.
Luca Kozák - two-time "Hungarian Athlete of the Year."
Lilianna Bátori - World Championship participant, with a jump of 1.88 meters in Tokyo.
Renáta Beregszászi - winning throw of 17.10 meters in Nyíregyháza in February.
This list alone guarantees a spectacular show - but for us, the demonstration of Hungarian strength is just as important.
Local heroes, local pride, local energy
We are particularly proud that the local audience can applaud not only national stars, but also the outstanding athletes of Nyíregyháza. The home track and the cheers from the stands can be a huge source of strength for local athletes – now it's our turn to fill the arena with energy. The competitors from the Nyíregyháza Sports Center have a serious chance of winning the championship.
Róbert Szikszai is one of the biggest domestic contenders in the discus throw. Gabriella K. Szabó and Flóra Tilki will compete in the 800 meters, and Gabriella will also test herself in the 1500 and 3000 meters – a real middle-distance challenge! In the triple jump, we can follow the competition of Dr. Bettina Abiwu. Erika Hanász and Ernő Csíkos Partik will compete in the shot put. Zorka Judit Hegedűs will represent the club in the long jump. In the discus throw, Dr. Dóra Kerekes and Erika Hanász will once again take their places in the throwing circle.
The special atmosphere of indoor competitions is now guaranteed in Nyíregyháza as well. Spectators will be able to see the record attempts, the joy and the struggle almost at arm's length. It is this proximity that makes the performance truly tangible. This weekend is all about speed, strength, records and passion.
If you love speed, power, and tense moments, then the Nyíregyháza Athletics Center is the place for you this weekend.
