At the Municipal Sports Gala held on 19 March 2025 in Nyíregyháza, the city's outstanding athletes and their coaches were honoured.
In athletics and fencing, the following athletes were singled out for their outstanding international achievements, national results, performance in para-, senior and extreme sports, or participation in the European Olympic and Athletics Championships:
Athletics:
- Gabriella K. Szabó (Nyíregyházi Sportcentrum) - athlete who broke the U23 short track national record in the 1 mile.
- Balázs Tóth (Nyíregyházi Sportcentrum) - weightlifter, indoor individual record. Coach: László Kerekes.
- Dr. Abiwu-Türk Bettina (Nyíregyházi Sportcentrum) - triple jumper, who has performed outstandingly in several competitions. Coach: Béla Bakosi
- Helebrandt Máté (Nyíregyházi Sportcentrum) - walker, who represented our country and our city at the Paris Olympics. His coach is József Pokrovenszki.
- Péter Bakosi (Nyíregyházi Sportcentrum) - high jumper, participant of the European Athletics Championships. Coach: Béla Bakosi.
- Róbert Szikszai (Nyíregyházi Sportcentrum) - discus thrower, who participated in the European Athletics Championships in Rome. Coach: László Kerekes.
- Dóra Kerekes (Nyíregyházi Sportcentrum) - discus thrower, also participant of the European Athletics Championships in Rome. Coach: Róbert Cserpák.
Fencing:
- István Tarjányi (Nyíregyházi Sportcentrum) - wheelchair fencer, who was awarded "Para athlete of the year" at the 2024 World Championships, fifth in the duel team and seventh in the sword team. His coach is Béla Pákey.
We are proud that these athletes come to our facility, the Nyíregyháza Athletics Centre, every day and we are happy to be part of their success. At the event, in addition to the award winners, their coaches were also recognised, highlighting their work in preparing the athletes.
