Athletics competitions are certified by the International Association of Athletics Federations (World Athletics). WA classification helps to rank and standardise competitions and gives athletes the opportunity to compete at an international level.

In the case of Hungarian competitions, the Hungarian Athletics Federation makes the recommendation for upgrading.

Our aim is to upgrade the competitions organised at the Nyíregyháza Athletics Centre to a higher category, and all the conditions are there for this. Given the large number of international participants and the records broken during the competitions, we can expect a good chance of this.

  • 20 January. Nyíregyháza Open Indoor Championships from 12.00 to 17.00
  • 27 January. Nyíregyháza open indoor competition from 11.00 to 19.00
  • 10 February North-Slovak Championship /date to be confirmed/
  • 17-18 February 50th Hungarian Indoor Athletics Championships 17 February: from 14.30 to 19.00 m 18 February: from 12.55 to 18.00 h

The organisers of the competition must comply with certain requirements concerning the competition regulations, the competition judges, the course, the organisation of the competition and other logistical aspects. Criteria for raising the qualification level are generally related to improving the organisation of the competition and meeting the competition standards to a higher level.

The conditions for raising the level of qualification are generally related to improving the organisation of the competition and to a higher level of compliance with the competition standards.

  1. Competition organisers should engage in anti-doping measures, which should include doping control of athletes.
  2. The timing system used in the competition should also comply with the standards.
  3. The events and their levels must also comply with the WA requirements.
  4. Organisers must improve the quality of their competition, providing an attractive and safe environment for athletes, spectators and media.

Progression through the rating levels generally reflects the development of the competition and the fulfilment of the requirements. World Athletics assesses the rating of competitions annually and events must have the appropriate rating level to be eligible to host certain international competitions. The classification system used by WA (formerly IAAF) divides competitions into different levels. The letter symbols help competitors, teams and the public to easily identify the quality and attractiveness of competitions on the international athletics scene.

The current (2022) classification levels are as follows:

  • World Athletics Platinum Label (PL): this is the highest level of certification a competition can achieve. Platinum Label competitions attract the highest international attention and field of competitors. They must meet excellent organizational and logistical standards and receive a high level of media exposure.
  • World Athletics Gold Label (GL): These competitions are also of a high standard in terms of organisation, events and international appeal.
  • World Athletics Silver Label SL): Silver Label competitions also have a significant international appeal and must meet high standards of organisation.
  • World Athletics Bronze Label (BL): Lower level competitions, but still internationally recognised and open to foreign competitors. They must meet appropriate organisational and competition quality criteria.

It is important to note that these ratings are regularly reviewed and World Athletics is constantly working with the organisers of the competitions to improve and develop them. The exact criteria and requirements for each rating category may change over time as the sport and competitions evolve.
