The Federation Captain will arrive on Wednesday 7 June 2023 at 16h at the Nyíregyháza Athletics Centre.
Badminton is power and speed! Anyone who remembers India and Mads Kolding's 426 km/h shot will agree. Kolding is not, but as part of the new programme of the Badminton Federation, the national captain Gregor McVean will be visiting Nyíregyháza to visit the badminton department of the Sportcentrum! He will meet the junior players and give a demonstration training session.
The purpose of the visit is to help the national captain to train local coaches, to increase the number of players, the quality of training and, in the long run, to improve the development of the Hungarian badminton sport.
Gregor Mcvean is a Scottish-born former national junior badminton team player who is currently the captain of the Hungarian Badminton Federation.
Gregor started his career in a small Scottish village of 5000 people. His coach was very dedicated and did his best for the sport. He essentially introduced him to badminton and despite the small population, the club was very successful in the Scottish field.
He started coaching at the age of 16, and after leaving the game at 18, he began to pursue the profession more seriously. After graduating from university, however, he took up a full-time position. He has come a long way, from a small village to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where he coached Gergely Krausz to an Olympic quota, alongside Henrik Tóth and Alan McIlvain, who also coached at VSD.
