It was an exciting start to the year for our athletes competing in the adult and U18 and U20 age groups. Let's take a look at how the excellent Nyíregyháza athletes performed on their home field!

In our last article, we took stock of the events and records of the Nyíregyháza Athletics Centre 2024 so far. Now let's get to know our home athletes who are the competitors of Nyíregyházi Sportcentrum. Let's take note of the names below, because we claim that the champions of the present and the future are among us!

The year started on 20 January with the Nyíregyháza Open Indoor Track and Field Competition, which continued on 27 January, so some athletes just had time to catch their breath before the next competition. This was followed by the 50th Hungarian Indoor Athletics Championships in February, which saw Nyíregyháza athletes compete over two weekends. Let us first take a look at the participants and their results in the running events.

Participants in the women's 60 m: Judit Zorka Hegedüs, Dóra Bogár, Petra Gráf, Anita Lili Kovács, Edina Bálint, Kata Anna Körmendi and Réka Körmendi. Men's 60 m participants. In the final of this event we finally saw Bencé Boros, who finished in 1st place. Congratulations to him!

In both the women's and men's 200 m short track events, the talents of Sabolcs competed, namely Anita Lili Kovács, who won the women's 200 m short track event on 20 January with a time of 26.84 in heat 6. She was followed by Kata Körmendi Anna in 2nd place with a time of 27.57. The other races also brought good results for our runners, Gitta Németh finished 5th in race 7 (28.94), Bálint Görömbei 4th (25.52), Szabolcs Kovács 3rd in race 6 (23.73), Zsombor Nagy 8th (23.73). On 27 January, Anna Kata Körmendi improved her result from the previous day (27.50), which was good enough for 2nd place on this day as well. In Race 7, however, Petra Gráf finished with a race win in 28.88. 2nd place in the same race went to Berta Moravszki with a time of 30.74. The 50th National Indoor Championships on 18-19 February saw a national record set by BHSE sprinter Boglarka Takacs with a time of 23.56. We are proud of the fact that this result was achieved within the walls of the Nyíregyháza Athletics Centre.

Stick to the running numbers, but double the distance! In January, we also had our girls in the 400m with Réka Szilágyi, who came 6th in heat 3, and Marta Kertész, who came 5th in heat 4. Or our sons Tamás Csordás, who finished 2nd in race 5, and Gergell Kohán, who finished 6th in race 4. In February, Réka Szilágyi also fought her way to a 4th place in Race 4 in the ladies' race. But the truly memorable record-breaking performance, which we have reported, was that of Attila Molnár, as the talented FTC athlete broke the national record on 20 January with a time of 46.22 seconds, which was held by Tamás Molnár of Nyíregyháza in 1990 with a time of 46.37.

Perhaps the most "killer" distance, the 800 metres, was the one where Flóra Tilki and Gyula Török proved their mettle. Gyula came 1st in heat 3 with a time of 2:09.32, while Flóra finished fifth in heat 1 with a time of 2:22.82.

Let's jump ahead, as far as the running is concerned, to the 3000m specialised runners. Let's start with the ladies, well just one, as Boglárka Szabó is a person of endurance. Of course, Márk Vörös, who also excelled in the 1500 metres, Zsolt Szilágyi, Dániel Vegera and Péter Dávid Kocsis deserved this title.

His girls can work well together as a team, as they proved in the women's 4x200m short course time trial. What's more! In Nyíregyháza, she can show three of her relay teams.

Relay I.: Anita Lili Kovács, Réka Körmendi, Flóra Tilki, Judit Zorka Hegedüs - At the Nyíregyháza Open Indoor Track and Field Championships on 27 January, the girls finished 2nd on the podium with a time of 1:47.15.

Relay II: Gitta Németh, Berta Moravszki, Kata Berencsi and Petra Gráf - also 27th January, followed closely behind their fellow athletes with a time of 2:00.47 and could be satisfied with a 3rd place.

Relay III: Dóra Bogár, Zsófia Sápi, Réka Szilágyi and Anna Kata Körmendi - they finished 7th at the Hungarian U20 and U18 Indoor Athletics Championships on 24-25 February in 1:50.37.
