As the end of the year approaches, the best athletes in the sport will once again descend on Nyíregyháza: the Men's and Women's Adult Weightlifting National Championships will be held on November 22-23, 2025, one of the most important and prestigious events of the domestic weightlifting season. The competition is organized by Nyíregyházi VSC and will be held at one of the city's most modern sports facilities, the Nyíregyháza Athletics Center.

The championship is organized by the Hungarian Weightlifting Federation, and its goal is nothing less than to decide the 2025 Hungarian championship titles, fulfill the qualification levels, and collect adult team championship points.

A record field, big names, and huge battles are expected

Strict conditions had to be met during the registration period: competitors could only enter if they had achieved Junior III level in 2025, and the 120-person limit was quickly filled. Based on the starting lists, a real parade of stars is expected, with national championship title holders, national team members, and outstanding talents competing in several weight classes.

The field includes, among others:

  • Ákos Fehér (Haladás VSE) – 88 kg, 284 kg total, one of the favorites in the category
  • Szilárd Fekécs (Tatabánya SC) – 94 kg, 311 kg total, one of the strongest competitors in the entire field
  • Lajos Újvári (Testvériség-Újpalota SE) – 79 kg, 270 kg
  • Gábor Bunász (REAC) – 71 kg, 260 kg
  • Vivien Breitner (Oroszlányi SZE) – women's 58 kg, 154 kg – one of the best competitors in the women's field
  • Katalin Kasza (Testvériség-Újpalota SE) – 63 kg, 160 kg
  • Anna Kapitány Luca (Szegedi Lelkesedés SK) – women's 69 kg, 190 kg, one of the favorites in her category

The strength of the field is demonstrated by the fact that in several men's categories, combined lifts of over 250 kg are expected, while in the women's category, fierce competition is expected in several weight classes.

Competition format – two days, eight competition blocks

Champions will be announced in eight weight classes for both women and men. The starting weights are strict: for men, a minimum of +20 kg compared to adult class III is mandatory, and for women, +15 kg is mandatory.

Day 1 – November 22, 2025 (Saturday)

  • 10:00 a.m. – Women's 48, 53, 58 kg
  • 12:00 p.m. – Men's 60, 71 kg
  • 2:00 p.m. – Men's 65, 79 kg
  • 4:00 p.m. – Men's 88 kg

The opening day will feature several top contenders, especially in the men's 71, 79, and 88 kg categories, where the closest battles in recent years are expected.

Day 2 – November 23, 2025 (Sunday)

  • 10:00 a.m. – Women's 63 kg
  • 12:00 p.m. – Men's 94 kg
  • 2:00 p.m. – Women's 69, 77, 86, +86 kg
  • 4:00 p.m. – Men's 110, +110 kg

On Sunday, it will be worth paying special attention to the 94 kg men's competition – the titanic battle between Szilárd Fekécs and Péter Marcell Tamtom could be one of the biggest clashes of the championship.

Awards, team competition

The top three finishers in each weight class will receive medals and trophies, while the others will receive certificates. Special prizes will be awarded to the best female and male competitors based on Q points.

The Q points of each club's five best competitors will count towards the team championship title, and the results will be announced at the 2026 MSSZ general meeting.
