Organized by the Hungarian Athletics Federation, the indoor arena in Nyíregyháza will once again be filled with spectators on February 21–22, as the country's most talented U18 and U20 athletes arrive to decide who will wear the Hungarian championship title in 2026.
The indoor track season is a special world. Everything is closer here: the sound of the starting pistol is sharper, the cheers of the fans echo off the walls, and the runners' footsteps almost beat in unison with the hearts of the spectators. There is nowhere to hide on the 200-meter track – every movement, every tactical decision is immediately visible.
In recent years, the Nyíregyháza Athletics Center has become one of the centers of indoor athletics in Hungary. The modern facility provides ideal conditions for young athletes to perform at their best. And they will need it: this is the national championship.
More than just a competition
For the U18s, this is often their first real big national competition. Excitement, a desire to prove themselves, sometimes a little stage fright – but when the starting gun goes off, it's all about the work they've been doing on the training tracks for months.
For the U20 age group, the stakes are even higher. For many of them, this is the last junior championship before they move on to the senior field. A good result can mean not only a medal, but also qualification, selection for the national team, or even another step towards the international stage.
There are stories behind the numbers
The explosive starts of the 60-meter sprint, the rhythm of the hurdlers, the silence of the high jumpers before their run-up, the moment the long jumpers spend in the air – each is a story in itself. The concentrated movements of the shot putters and the stamina of the decathletes show how much work and perseverance goes into each result.
This championship is not just about results. It's about dreams. First finals. Personal bests. Moments when someone realizes they are capable of more than they thought.
Let's cheer them on together!
Those who want to experience this up close can cheer on the competitors at the venue – especially the young athletes from the Nyíregyháza Sports Center, who will be competing on their home turf in front of their own audience. A few words of encouragement, applause, or a loud "Go!" often give extra strength in the home stretch.

Two days when the future of Hungarian athletics takes shape. Two days when young talents compete not only with each other but also with their own limits.
Perhaps the competitor we will hear about in international finals in a few years' time will be on the track right now.
And maybe their journey will begin right here in Nyíregyháza.
