Hungarian wheelchair fencer István Tarjányi has won a bronze medal at the Paralympic Qualification World Cup in Thailand, deservedly earning the recognition of the sporting world.
István was ranked second in the world rankings before the competition, which gave him a prominent position, so he did not have to compete in the group stage. In the direct elimination stage, Tarjányi took on Brazilian Guasson for the first time and confidently defeated his opponent. He then showed his excellence again against Greece's Tirantifalou, coming from behind against both opponents. It is particularly noteworthy that he had suffered defeats to both rivals earlier in the season, but now managed to put things right.
Tarjányi's bronze medal at the Thailand event put him in the top 4, making him the only European to represent the region. In the fight to reach the final, he had to face Zhang of China, where he was ultimately defeated. However, the bronze medal is an outstanding achievement, especially in light of the fact that Paralympic qualification is a continental event and István Tarjányi was the only European to medal in the competition.
Congratulations to István Tarjányi for this exceptional achievement, which is not only a personal success but also a source of pride for the entire European fencing community.
István thanked the Community for its support on the Community Olda:
"Thank you to my coach Béla Pákely, my physiotherapist Gabriella Fancsaliné Garai, the Nyíregyháza Sportcentrum and the municipality of Nyíregyháza for their support!"
