On 14-15 June 2025, the Nyíregyháza Athletics Centre will once again be the venue of a sporting history event, hosting the best young athletes of the Eastern Region at the 2nd round of the U16, U15 and U14 Regional League Tournament.
The two-day event is organised by the Nyíregyháza Sports Centre on behalf of the Hungarian Athletics Federation, with the aim of expanding the competitive opportunities and supporting the preparation of age-group talents for the summer national championships.
Celebration of the sport: the aim is to improve and qualify for the national finals
The main objective of the competition is to promote the sport of athletics and to give the U16 and U15 age groups the opportunity to qualify for the individual outdoor championships. Medals will be awarded to the podium finishers.
Eastern Region hopefuls compete
Athletes from the counties of the Eastern Region - Békés, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Csongrád, Hajdú-Bihar, Heves, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, Pest (left bank of the Danube) and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg - will take part in the competition. To be eligible, athletes must have a valid competition licence, a sports doctor's certificate and an entry form submitted by the deadline.
The diversity of the events gives every young person the chance to show their talent. In the U14 age group, there are three quadrathlon events that measure different athletic skills. The U15 and U16 age groups will compete in a variety of events, from sprints to long-distance running, from jumping and throwing to hurdles. Of particular interest is the whistling rocket throw, which is only on the programme at the regional league competitions.
Venue of the competition: the Nyíregyháza Athletics Centre
The competition will be held at the Nyíregyháza Athletics Centre, one of the most modern athletics facilities in the country. The facility, which will be inaugurated in 2023, will be able to host international-level competitions, with an 8-lane track, state-of-the-art throwing and jumping tracks and an indoor warm-up hall, providing high quality conditions for athletes, coaches and spectators alike.
Thanks to its excellent location, the complex is both easily accessible and surrounded by greenery, making it an ideal venue for sporting events in the region. The stands, changing rooms and service areas around the pitch all contribute to a comfortable and professional competition environment.
The home team will also be on the grid
The host Nyíregyháza Sports Centre will also be represented at the event by a number of young talents. It is particularly motivating for the local athletes to prove their skills in front of a home audience, on their own field, and the possibility of participating in the national championships is within reach. Every year, the Nyiregyhaza Sport Cenre invests a lot of effort in the education of young athletes, and this year we can expect another exciting performance from our young athletes.
For the young athletes, this weekend will not only be a competition, but also an experience - another step on the road to athletic development in excellent conditions.
